Research mode that shows your browsing journey
Stop losing track of where you found things. Pola automatically builds a visual tree of your research, so you can see connections and retrace your steps.

Visual browsing tree
See your entire research journey as a branching tree. Every page you visit becomes a node, showing exactly how you got there and what paths you explored.
Connection tracking
Never lose context again. The tree shows relationships between pages, so you can trace back exactly where you found that crucial piece of information.
Research focus
Stay oriented during deep research sessions. The visual tree keeps your investigation structured, even as you follow dozens of links across multiple sources.
How research mode works
A different way to think about browsing history
Browse normally
Click links, open tabs, and explore as you usually would. Research mode works in the background, tracking your journey without interrupting your flow. Every page you visit becomes part of your visual tree.
Watch your tree grow
See your research take shape as a branching tree. Each node represents a page you visited, with lines showing how you got there. Branches split when you open multiple links from the same page, creating a map of your exploration.
Retrace any path
Need to find that article from three hours ago? Or remember how you found a particular source? The visual tree shows every step of your journey. Click any node to jump back to that page, or see the full context of how you arrived there.
Who benefits from research mode
Deep research requires keeping track of where you have been
For academic researchers
Trace the evolution of your literature review. See how one paper led to another, track which sources influenced your thinking, and never lose that critical citation again.
For investigative journalists
Map complex stories as they unfold. Follow leads across multiple sources, track which threads panned out, and build a clear picture of how facts connect.
For product managers
Organize competitive research and user studies. Keep track of which features you have researched, what competitors offer, and how different solutions compare.
For developers
Navigate documentation and Stack Overflow without losing your place. Track which solutions you have tried, what approaches worked, and how different libraries relate.
Research mode vs traditional history
See why visual trees beat chronological lists
| Feature | Traditional browsers | Pola Browser |
|---|---|---|
| Browsing history | Linear list, hard to navigate | Visual tree showing connections |
| Context retention | Lose track after a few clicks | Full journey visible at a glance |
| Backtracking | Repeatedly click back button | Jump to any point instantly |
| Research organization | Manual bookmarks or notes | Automatic visual structure |
Common questions
Does research mode track everything automatically?
Yes. Once enabled, research mode builds your visual tree automatically as you browse. There is no need to manually save pages or create bookmarks. The tree grows organically with every link you click, capturing the full context of your research session.
Can I have multiple research trees at once?
Absolutely. Each Space in Pola can have its own research tree, keeping different projects completely separate. Your work research stays in your work space, while personal projects maintain their own history. You can also clear or reset trees when starting fresh investigations.
How long does the research tree persist?
Your research trees are saved and persist across browser sessions. Come back days or weeks later, and your complete browsing history for each project will still be there. With cloud sync enabled, your research trees are also backed up and available across all your devices.
